History and Challenges in Liberia
Liberia, founded in 1822 by freed African American slaves through the American Colonization Society, became Africa's first republic in 1847. Early tensions between the Americo-Liberians and indigenous populations created long-standing inequalities. The country’s stability was shattered in 1980 by a coup, leading to two devastating civil wars from 1989 to 2003. These conflicts caused widespread destruction, loss of life, and displacement, severely weakening Liberia's institutions and economy.
Orphan Crisis
The civil wars created a significant orphan crisis, with thousands of children losing their parents or becoming separated from their families. Orphanages and care facilities, overwhelmed and under-resourced, struggled to provide adequate living conditions, education, and healthcare. This instability led to issues such as child trafficking, exploitation, and forced labor. Despite international aid, systemic problems and ongoing economic challenges hinder efforts to improve the lives of Liberia's orphans.
Efforts by True Faith Missions
True Faith Missions is addressing these challenges by building churches, orphanages, and schools in Liberia. Their efforts aim to provide not only immediate relief and support to orphans but also to strengthen community structures and education. By focusing on sustainable development and community engagement, True Faith Missions hopes to create a better future for Liberia's children and contribute to the country’s long-term recovery and growth.
Currently, our church is covering the day-to-day costs of our orphanage, which cares for 35 children, but we need your support to meet their educational needs and to complete the school we are building for them. While we have a way for you to donate, we want to emphasize that we trust God to provide and encourage you to pray about how you might partner with us.
If you feel led to support our mission—whether through a monthly pledge, sponsoring a child’s education, or another form of assistance—please reach out to us. Should your church be interested in supporting our missionary work, we would be grateful for the opportunity to visit, share more about our mission, and explore potential partnerships.
We are committed to transparency: if you do choose to contribute, a receipt along with a picture and biography of the child you helped will be sent to your email. Thank you for keeping our community and these children in your prayers.
